From Disney comes the live-action remake of their classic 1998 film of the same name "Mulan". While the overall plot is the same, Disney has changed quite a bit from the animated original. This remake serves as an acceptable and more respectful version of the beloved Chinese heroine. Due to this, the film pretty much takes out all that Chinese audiences didn't like. Is it good? This review will be spoiler-free.

First, I loved the cast. They all did their jobs well. The entire cast (even the minor roles) did very well. The wonderful cast includes Liu Yifei, Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Gong Li, Jason Scott Lee, and Jun Yu. The whole cast did wonderfully, but those were the ones that stood out most to me. Liu Yifei was a wonderful option for Mulan. Her whole performance was convincing and gripping. I wished the main villain, Jason Lee Scott, got a little bit more screen time though.
The look of the film is stunning. Every shot, every scene, and every landscape is filmed to perfection. Niki Carror directed this film beautifully. "Mulan" is without a doubt a theatrical experience. This film is meant to be seen on a theater screen. I watched this on a 75 inch 4k television and still feel as I was missing out on the stunning cinematography this film offered.
My only issue with the film was really the rushed aspects. I feel as this film could have benefited from a longer runtime. I still enjoyed it to pieces but wished it was over 2-hours.
"Mulan" is definitely a great film. I loved almost everything about it. I also love how Disney took a more realistic route and told the iconic story more respectfully.
"Mulan" (2020) gets a 9.5/10 (95%)
