First let me speak to believers. This series is not the Bible. If you were hoping for a verse by verse script of the synoptic gospels, you've come to the wrong place. I've read all of the one star reviews, give me a break. The God I worship created the universe and everything in it. HE is more than capable in keeping HIS sacred WORD sacred, regardless of any extras that are added for flavor and context. You can argue that The Chosen is "adding" to scripture ONLY if you can show me anyone associated with The Chosen claiming that Dallas Jenkins heard from "god" and was told to set bible correct through his show. The point is as a child, I had an illustrated Bible that only included certain verses for dialog. It wasn't the BIBLE, but it was a Bible based tool to get me, a child, interested in the WORD. The Chosen is a tool to bring the gospel story to modern media consumers in a market flooded by everything except quality biblical programming. And if you ever listen to Dallas Jenkins about the direction of The Chosen, he says that. So if you are a believer who is afraid that this work will or can lead to the downfall of a Christian or even a new Christian, your fear is conjecture and unwarranted. How about watch the entire series with a note pad and instead of taking note on where the series differs with the Bible, note down which parts you think could sway a believer from their faith. Then read it to another believer and see what they say.
To the unbeliever or person questioning their faith. This series is for entertainment but it is based upon a panel of historical experts ranging from actual Jewish Rabbis, Catholic priests, non-denomination professors, and a litany of extra historical documents from the time period. The Chosen seeks to give viewers a snap shot of what life may have been like during the time Jesus walked the earth. The series is less about complete adherence to biblical time lines, and more geared to a whole understanding of why Christians belive Jesus to be God. If you have read any of the 1 star comments, you will see in action how the enemy uses even fellow believers against each other. But that's okay, stick around a few seasons, it's a completely normal thing. What I can promise you is the acting, the set design, the costumes, and the dialog are so well done that you feel you are on the same journey. If you watch all 8 episodes, you will begin to know and understand why we all take our faith so seriously, and hopefully lead you to ask questions.
