Deliberately scripted to frustrate a viewer’s ordinary sense of reasoning and/or intuition, there is a palpable sense of frustration and perhaps irritation as scenes unfold because the script does not provide sufficient information in critical ways to assist viewers form the usual conclusions.
I could quite understand a typical viewer’s frustration with most scenes, but I believe this to be a deliberate strategy to pique the interest of those not easily ‘put off’ by frustration or else those whose curiosity will not be appeased until they obtain answers to the many questions posed.
The screen characters are perplexed and terrified, & the idea seems to be that of conveying precisely those sentiments to the viewer.
A constant refrain as I continue to watch is, “Why didn’t X tell Y this or that?” Or “Why was this information withheld by X when relating this to Y?”
Frustrated and intrigued, I must see this film through.
