// Have you seen:
// The Witch (2015), Hereditary (2018) and The Lodge (2019)
Yes. The VVitch was amazing.
Hereditary was a little repetitive for me but the story and acting were incredible.
The Lodge was interesting and worth a watch but not as interesting for me as the other 2.
// Your time is better spent elsewhere.
// My Suggestions:
The Babadook (2014) - nope. Too borrowed, too cliche for me
I Saw the Devil (2010) - also too drawn out and over acted with unreliable characters and story for me
We Need to talk about Kevin (2011) - Will see
You're Next (2011) - Cliche for me
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) - Too re-done. The haunting of.... The autopsy of.... zzzzzzz IMO
Don't Breathe (2016) - Yes, awesome. the sequel sucked IMO
I See You (2019) - Another re-done to death type film IMO
The Empty Man (2020) - will see.
This list shows one persons idea of a great horror film which is fine. Definitely not my favorite list by a long shot. Horror and Comedy are 2 genres that are very subjective.
Some people and maybe a majority, hence the Mainstream, like jump scares, intense actions, ludicrous scenarios (snakes on a plane). That's fine, I expect that. Some people have had a lot of life experience and want to see those things represented in horror films such as drama, despair, thought provoking ideas, cinematography/lanscapes/environment..etc.
And some people don't want to see that in films because it triggers them so they go for escapism horror. Everything is fine. We are all different in different stages relating and attaching to different things at different times.
My list would go like... (in no order):
- Blair Witch 1
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1
- The Box (Jason Bateman)
- The VVitch
- The Last Broadcast
- The Bay
- American Werewolf in London
- Skeleton Key
- Paranormal Activity 1
- Shutter Island
- Evil Dead 2
- Hidden
- Let the right one in (Foreign)
- When a Stranger Calls (1979)
With The Bay being one of the best horror/thrillers ever made IMO
I M O (it's all subjective).
