Spicy Babaa

Spoilers ahead!! Okay this show was so close to being amazing, but it dropped the ball incredibly hard. So tldr, the premise of the plot is this guy awakens to super powers, and he gets a message from his future self that his fiance dies on a specific date, and that he needs to get all these other super heroes together in time in order to prevent it. And just for reference, the super heroes are together in this future event where his fiance dies, the problem was they didn't get together IN TIME, so the fiance dies. Alright, premise established. Then the entire duration of this show is him convincing these people to join him and get together soon enough, and then at the end his fiance dies anyways to some dumb reason, making literally the ENTIRE SHOW COMPLETELY MEANINGLESS. Had he never gotten this glimps into the future, literally nothing would change... This felt like a "shock for the sake of getting a shock from the audience" level twist, and it completely invalidated any investment from the audience. It's just... a dumb decision to make from a story telling perspective. If there was already a greenlit second season and it was somehow a double fake or something, I could maybe justify it? But they end the season with a short time skip to show the events had solidified. If you wanted to make a grim "the future is immutable" kind of take on this, it would have been infinitely better to have s1 be whatever it was they were planning for s2, and then sprinkled in these flash backs of s1 to show how the characters got so jaded or whatever. Maybe i am in the minority on this, but i cannot remember a single show where i finished it and felt the same level of detached disappointment. It's akin to having a full season focused on a character, then at the end of the season killing them and making s2 focused around their brother or something. Like its too jarring and meaningless for the audience to connect or feel any investment in a potential new season. Just my take.
