This is an apocalyptic film that captures how people respond to a disaster that is slowly creeping up on them, not suddenly exploding in technicolor horror. Think Germany 1927-1931, not Hiroshima, August 6, 1945. I suspect most of the negative reviews come from people who were seeking a Hiroshima experience and were sorely disappointed by a great, but different film.
