The Merchant of Venice is a popular romantic play written by William Shakespeare.It was written during the 16th century. The main themes of this play are Love, hatred, revenge, mercy, justice, friendship, etc... The play has the high sense of humour in it... The dialogues made by Shakespeare are of high standard.... He also depicts the true friendship between Antonio and Bassanio... Also the love scenes are beautifully depicted by Shakespeare in this play... The main theme, "Mercy is more important than Justice" is clearly portrayed in this play.... "The plead for mercy" by Portia has the powerful dialogues in it which is so fantastically portrayed in this play... The first part of the play is somewhat difficult to understand. It starts with Antonio being melancholy for no reason.... Also in this play, though he is a good Christian, Antonio won't have the quality of Christ and he condems the Jewish race....
