After reading reviews I was pessimistic this film would be a slow burning car crash.
How wrong was I (and these reviews)!
(Trigger warning)
This film is a painfully real metaphorical narrative on rape.
The slow burn creates this monotonous eery feeling that makes you question 'are we waiting for something?' Or 'are these people just living their lives?'.
With everything coming up raw and in a brutal light towards the end of the movie makes you catch your breath. You feel the life being taken, from right under the feet, from one who has been a victim of sexual assault.
The metaphorical imagery of amulets and introduction of surreal scenes makes for a respectfully honest depiction of what it must be like to go through something like that.
Amulet is a disgustingly beautiful commentary on the actions and their consequences.
