Generally enjoy the show but today Tony Dokoupil’s glib treatment of Florida’s law on the right to vote by former felons was very disappointing and unprofessional. Dokoupil spoke about ‘court fees’ but the law covers fines, restitution, and fees, which can be substantial sums. Dokoupil made it sound like Florida was denying voting rights over a bunch of insignificant fees. Why not speak to the facts? Judges and juries give sentences based on the laws of the land and they ought not to be disrespected by TV personalities no matter how clever they think they are.
