I would give this show a 3.627 star rating. It’s honestly grown on me a bit. I’ll start out by saying that I have read the Percy Jackson series a good 5-8 times in my life… I was really passionate about it! When I found out that a series was being made about the books, I was thrilled. The books that actually made me interested in reading and allowed my imagination to flow as a middle schooler was going to actually come to life in the form of a show! I was thrilled.
Then, we waited. What, like two years? It felt like five. It would have been nice to have longer episodes for that wait time. Or, maybe, release all of the episodes at once so we don’t get thirty minute episodes that barely dip our toes in the water and then abruptly end. That’s just what I’ve been thinking!
Anyways, the actual show is not bad. There are many, many, many things that are different from the books. There are way too many to list. I don’t know if it is because I have read the series so much, or if it is just obvious that a lot of things were changed (many things were essential to the plot-line). It felt like many of the unimportant, add-ins were taking up WAY too much time, which allowed for the details that I feel like actually matter (there’s a lot, because the books are long) to be left out.
The Medusa scene was entirely too long for it to be almost all incorrect. The Echidna scene hurt me with how long she was talking for and that conversation never happened on a train in the book.💀 I guess my mind just critically analyzed every single messed up thing because I felt like there were A LOT.
This new episode was honestly really good. This whole Percy and Annabeth relationship is really moving along, so I assume it is going to develop a lot quicker in the show. It felt like this episode was one of the more different episodes from the book, but there were better changes than before (ones that actually kind of made sense).
All in all, this is a T.V. show. I get it. It cannot contain every single detail that a 300-400 page book has. It is a pretty good show when you consider that. I just hate that I felt like a few scenes were done better in the movie (which I have a passionate dislike for) than in the show. I feel like this show would be great if there was no book to compare it to. You can’t really measure up to such a detail-filled, well written book that was a huge part of my childhood. I have a feeling these last few episodes are going to be great!!!!
Please, please, please be above 30 minute episodes.ðŸ˜
