PERSONAL ANECDOTE: This is not a review of Mildred Pierce, because I saw only a few scenes of the movie on TV (Turner Classic Movies) last night before going to bed - it was past my bedtime and my 87 year old body was calling for sleep after an active day.
The very title of this movie brought back memories for me ...when I was 8 years old, in 1945. the movie was released. I recall my much older sisters and all their friends speaking about Mildred Pierce in hushed tones, about how dark it was...perhaps even banned by the Catholic Church's National Legion of DECENCY ! Though I frequently went to movies with my older sisters, I was not allowed to see MILDRED PIERCE...inappropriate for a child of course, but even more interesting is that it was considered immoral for even women in their 20's to view. How quaint this sounds today in an era when "anything goes" in cinema.
