This movie has been a part of my cinematic repertoire since I was 13yrs old…3 whole years AFTER it won Best Foreign Film.
I’m still annoyed about those lost 3 years.
From the score to the story, to the story within the story, to the actors, to the writing, to the cinematography..everything about this film is pure perfection. *This is the first and only review I have ever left - about anything..anywhere..ever**
As a purist, I wouldn’t recommend “The New Cinema Paradiso” for first time viewers.
Maybe (and only after full appreciation of the original) it’s bearable, but not for this fan.
Be prepared to laugh.
Be prepared to cry.
Be prepared to book the first flight out to Southern Italy.
But most of all, be prepared to look forward to and / or reminisce on the days you’ll have (have had) with that certain sparkle in your eyes and longing in your heart.
Nearly 40yrs after seeing this masterpiece…I can honestly say nothing has come close to the inspiration it instilled in me (and still does), to explore, to fly, to discover and to fall in love.
This film is absolute perfection in every single way.
