Critic Review: Doraemon Art World Tales is an okay movie. It lacked several elements that, if addressed by the makers, could have made it much better: Lack of Proper Music and Timing: The movie did not have a single scene where the music matched the mood. Music is crucial for conveying the emotions of the characters and making the audience feel them too. In my opinion, music contributes to 90% of the impact of a scene and, ultimately, the entire movie. For example, one scene described below highlights this issue. Poor Character Integration: There were two main problems with character use. First, there were very few side characters, such as the public of Artria, making the movie feel less lively. Second, some characters were unnecessary. The addition of fake Claire was pointless, as the writers did not explain why she existed, and there was no scene showing the Joker planting her, making her appearance feel out of place. Similarly, Sodro was unnecessary, as he played a minor role and only confused viewers about his purpose. His Joker-style outfit also stood out awkwardly, since the story is set in the 13th century, long before such outfits existed. Uninteresting Ending: At the end, when the Claire from the art world vanishes and Pal brings her back, she doesn’t remember the adventure. This would have been a strong, dramatic ending. Instead, the writers gave her back her memory with the explanation that it was all a dream, which was confusing, unnecessary and unexplained. A more impactful ending could have been keeping her memory lost, or making the art world Claire the real Claire. Random, Unnecessary Sound Effects: The film includes “funny” sound effects like “Toing” and “Poing,” which are often placed at inappropriate moments. For example, in a suspenseful scene where Gian and Suneo hang on a wooden plank, a random “Toing” sound effect when something pokes Gian completely kills the tension. These effects may be intended for children, but they don’t work as humor in these contexts. Conclusion: If these problems had been addressed, the movie could have been on the level of legendary Doraemon films such as Treasure Island, Kachi Kochi, Chronicles of the Moon Exploration, and Steel Troops.
