I think the synopsis of "American Woman" completely misses the compelling meanings and deeper messages of this extraordinary movie. This is about a female's struggle to navigate a life tormented by chronic loss - from a neglectful childhood to the horrific disappearance/death of her own daughter accompanied by the deterioration of her sense of worth and belonging. This movie is also about the grueling process of moving through layers of grief and finding one's way through the intricacies of healing. It is about the purpose we discover within our own strength.
