As a fan of the original trilogy, to the point where I have the Camp Nightwing sign tattooed on my body, it was a struggle to finish this movie. To start, it's simply cruel - every single character is snarky and rude, and not even in a charming 'Shadyside' way - they're just mean for literally no reason, and the amount of condescending taunting in this movie is just infuriating. Tiffany is a cartoon villain, to the point where I was genuinely getting worked up with anger every scene she was in, and it just felt like the same scene over and over where this demon girl horrifically taunts a girl who has never bothered her in any way over something gruesome and tragic that she wasn't even alive for. The pacing is awful, with the movie starting two days before prom, yet we're at prom 25 minutes in. Ariana Greenblatt was entirely wasted, and her character actually seemed interesting, more interesting than the "wolfpack", which was basically three flavors of the same character that died without any real development or anything interesting to show for them. All of the kills were either laughable or dull. So many elements were introduced that were never acknowledged again, to the point where how I thought the movie would go was better than what actually happened (ig the writers have never heard of Chekov's gun). The main character Lori is nowhere NEAR the level of Deena, who actually had agency and a personality. Lori has no personality and basically spends the entire movie letting someone bully her relentlessly while she silently takes it and completely ditching her seemingly only friend the second she gets even a little social acceptance. And genuinely what was the point of Tyler.
Like I'm actually pissed that this movie was so awful. I was beyond excited for new Fear Street, but if this is the vibe going forward, please never make one again.
