The novel tells a great story that is truly satisfying. The Netflix series however, does a disservice to the story.
The acting is wooden by some of the cast, especially by Bryan Brown which was unexpected. So many scenes felt rushed and didn't clearly demonstrate how the point of the scene advanced the plot. For example, the bus stop scene where Eli escapes and is trying to figure out how to get back home. If you didn't read the novel, then you have no idea of why there is a scene with a transient at the bus stop after Eli escapes from the hospital. It just brushed the surface but failed to tell its purpose. Also, there's no way in hell that Eli biked all the way out to Bracken Ridge from where he was at. The ending from the meeting with Tytus at his house, to the discovery of the crimes held in the lab, to the releaving at city hall felt like the director just wanted to get it all over with.
Netflix continues to commit the crime of butchering great stories from novels worse than Ivan Kroll butchered his victims.
