I went into "Genie, Make a Wish" hoping for a fun, light-hearted fantasy, but I had to drop it almost immediately. As a Muslim, I was genuinely shocked and offended by how the show handled its subject matter. The main issue is its blatant disrespect for Islam. The show takes a sacred and deeply meaningful part of our faith, prayer, and reduces it to a magical gimmick. They literally took the physical postures of Islamic prayer (sujud) and used them as a "spell" to summon a genie. This isn't creative inspiration; it's a direct and careless appropriation of a religious ritual for entertainment. It shows a complete lack of respect and zero effort to understand what they are portraying.To make it worse, the entity they summon through this twisted prayer is basically glorified as a cool, powerful being. From an Islamic perspective, this is deeply problematic. It feels like they are taking something we consider an act of worship to the one God and redirecting it towards a supernatural being that, in our faith, aligns more with the concept of a jinn or even Satan being made to seem appealing.It's just so lazy. They could have created a completely original ritual or drawn from generic fantasy tropes. Instead, they chose to use a real, living religion as a cheap prop, without a thought for the millions of people who practice it. It completely took me out of the story and left a really bad taste in my mouth.I can't support a show that treats my faith with such disregard. It's a major disappointment and a big miss on the producers' part. Thank you for your feedback!
