It has inspired me to continue to fight for justice for my community. We are currently facing similar injustice in our community where people are losing their vouchers in a local housing authority for simply asking for fairness. Employees who try to assist them, find themselves fired and other employees are afraid to speak up for fear of their jobs. This problem is a systemic problem that needs to be brought to light. I'm seeing veterans on the street who fought for this country and single mothers losing their vouchers, all because they reported theft by a maintenance worker or similar problems. One single mother spoke out at a housing authority meeting and her voucher was terminated 3 days later. The mayor and all of the city commissioners are aware. She has reported her troubles to the state, to hud, to the governor, to the senators and whomever she could but nobody would listen to her now she and her children are homeless. We've been going down to the meetings asking them to just have mercy and stop the greed that is going on in the housing authority where they are enriching themselves and putting up employees in homes that are supposed to be provided for the elderly, the single mothers, the foster youth, the single fathers, the veterans and all who is in need. I have personally witnessed that more than 10 employees and their family members who just moved to town are living in those units while telling veterans and single mothers the wait list is closed and there's nothing nobody can do about it, nobody. All I can do is pray and ask that the Lord will have mercy on all of these people who are losing their homes for no reason other than greed and favoritism. Just Mercy 🥺
