SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! I read several Napoleon biography’s and watched many historical documentaries. I was really excited about this movie and eager to get delighted by it since trailer drops seemed pretty amazing. This is the typical bait and switch scam. Sir Ridley Scott, I really admire you as a cinematographer but if you are going to create a biography about one of the most important figures in history you should have been as historical accurate as you can be on your portrait (believe me when I say Napoleon’s live doesn’t lack of excitement as it was, no need for any script variations) because we need to create ourselves our own opinion based on precise historical events and not based on your biased opinion (I will explain myself later on). I won’t dare to submit a critic on the cast since I assume they did the best with what they gave them but I really didn’t enjoyed the overall performance. Napoleon was depicted as a brute, a sexual minded ogre and as a very common peasant that led couple victories and rises to power overnight. There so much more behind it. What happened with the Italian campaign where he was assigned a decrepit army and ended up sending caravans of gold and silver to the French government. The Egypt campaign was a joke. He never shot a the pyramids, the army disposition on the battle was incorrect. He took an army of scientist who created the base of modern Egyptology. What happens with his political legacy, he created the Code Napoleonic (civil legislature that gather all the freedom ideas of the revolution and Roman civil disperse codifications) that is still base of modern democracies across Europe and Latin America. They totally forgot about the Spanish Campaign. His was considered the best military commander of all time. In the movie they barely show his military skills and the longest battle they show was curiously the one he lost,exalting the British commander. I could go all day discharging my frustration about this movie. Really if you never studied about Napoleon I really recommend you to do so and then if you really want to watch the movie go ahead and get ready to get bored but you will not be deceived. 0 star, this movie is an insult to history and should be banned in France.
