Veering at times between sitcom antics and Hallmark Christmas movie, this second flawed adaptation of the engrossing and thematically complicated book by Audrey Niffenegger, HBO's The Time Traveller's Wife is still a step up from the hazy, under realized film. Both works suffer from a desire to "normalize" the love story by eliminating some of the grittier aspects of Niffenegger's original work, and HBO's production appears to have been pitched as Bridgerton-meets-sci-fi, with all that might, ahem, "entail." Plenty of naked bums, and some successful handling of complex time travel scenes, but a cloying relationship between the leads. If you know and love the book, temper your expectations.
