I just saw this a couple weeks ago and even though I thought it was just 'good' it could have been great
Over the last 30+ years music has become another character in movies thanks to the arrival of celebrity composers like John Williams. And the quick cuts that are the norm now dont give a viewer a chance to see what they're trying to absorb.. Ther's just no room to breathe anymore. It's an almost claustrophobic experience seeing an American movie where the CONSTANT music and explosions are SOOO loud that dialogue is left behind and the pace is a race to the next shot. I contrast this chaos with the storytelling of this year's Anatomy of a Fall or the very stark Zone of Interest, in which the silence itself leaves you gasping and the whole thing is so emotional. I thought the acting in Oppenheimer was great for what the actors had to convey with such quick little snippets of time to do it in. Ive loved C Murphy since 'The Wind That Shakes the Barley' and Emily Blunt is simply a joy anywhere she shows up. It's very frustrating that directors are so hell bent on being the stars of their films that they can't see that audience assault does not equate with greatness. As much fun as Everything , Everywhere was last year , it was too much too fast too loud too frenetic. The Banshees of Inisheerin was a fabulous tale
told with cinematic maturity and perfection. It's a shame what's happened to movie making. Anyway, Opp. is worth seeing but it definitely doesn't deserve the quivering awe it's getting.
