This series is SOOOOO bad! I really enjoyed the book. Some poor reviews are based on the differences between the book at the series. I could get over all of those changes if the writing/acting/music had been even decent. No such luck!
**Minor spoilers**
Writing - The dialogue is pretty bad and the song lyrics are worse.
Acting - Even if these actors had been given better material, I don't know that it would have helped. Most of them are terrible. Riley Keough may be good in something, but not this. Her acting was was one-dimensional and the character was annoying, selfish, and completely unlikeable. She had zero chemistry with the Billy character. The spinning around with the floaty sleeves seemed to be the only "move" she ever had on stage. Most of the rest of the main actors were bad too. I did think Warren and Karen's parts were well-cast and decently acted. They also had great chemistry. Camilla was good, but not given great material. In addition, the hair-styles (both 70s & 90s) were, almost across the board, horrible! The series seems to have been a big-budget affair...They needed to splurge a little more in the hair/makeup department. Camilla's was actually one of the best later-in-life styles (and it was revealed to be a WIG as part of her storyline!)
Finally, The Music - One would think that a 10-part series about a "world-famous" rock band would have some decent music. Nope. The music is AWFUL! The Six couldn't book a middle school dance, much less an arena.
The only redeeming quality about this adaptation is the occasional addition of an actual hit song from this time period. Otherwise, it's just. so. bad. Spare yourself. Skip this series. Read the book.
