This is an incredibly emotionally touching and moving film. Truly beautiful to watch for both the artistry of the tailors craft together with the delicate portrayals of the 3 main characters. The story unfolds gently and subtlety and is all the more beautiful for doing so. There's a very good balance of dialogue and silence in the film which helps hilight the undercurrent of emotion and unspoken feelings of all 3 characters. The relevance and symbolism of the blue caftan which underpins the film is lovingly deployed towards the end of the film. An unforgettable and exquisite film

Watched this series out of interest as a result of seeing Haluk Bilginer in The Turkish Detective. The plot was incredibly unique with so many unexpected diversions and offshoots.The story could be latterday Shakespearean tragedy and centres around a father trying to protect his two dysfunctional and damaged sons whilst preserving the fragile illusion of a normal wider family unit. The direction was original in its use of patchworks of repeated flashbacks that initially have no seeming relevance but gain more context and meaning as the plot processes. The series has an untimely and ultimate irony as the main protangonists driving force and motivation are eventually thwarted. The wonderful Haluk Bilginer expresses a gamut of raw emotional pain and angst on this heartwrenching journey. It was especially refreshing to see strong female roles for the mother and daughters in law and the actresses portrayed these with real authenticity and sensitivity . Masum dizi mashallah !

A really enjoyable detective series and so wonderful to see a Turkish production on the international stage. Haluk Bilginer is amazing.in the lead role of Ikmen . As an actor he has great screen presence and gravitas and his melodious voice is akin to David Suchet but so much better ! He can hold the audiences attention with just a look or gesture that convey a wealth of emotion or feeling. Truly a great , iconic and gifted actor. The supporting cast were also good and it felt like the team were constantly orbiting around the charismatic , quirky and memorable character of lkmen. The cinematography was great & really enhanced the beauty and colour of Istanbul. It was also enlightening to get an insight into the rich and diverse tapestry and culture of Turkey.. Thankyou BBC for airing this and please schedule more Turkisk productions. As a footnote , Haluk Bilginer has a large body of incredible award winning acting work in both Turkish and international cinema and television.

So impressed with this film. Definitely not a run of the mill psychological thriller. Joel Edgerton really has a talent both for acting & directing & producing. The film is initially a slow burn with great underplayed subtlety from Rebecca Hall & Justine Bateman. It then develops into an anticipated stalker-ish vein but takes a much deeper and more intimately disturbing turn. Felt gripped & engaged the whole way through by the brilliant & unusual plot coupled with superb acting. .

This was a really engaging & moving film. Florence Pugh is a latter day Kate Winslet , for such a young woman she displays a real depth of emotion & vulnerability.To also hold your own playing opposite the great Morgan Freeman also speaks volumes. They both carried the story well An unusual plot & storyline with some stark themes but with a redeeming ending . A film that you'll be glad to have watched.
