This is one of the saddest films I have ever seen. It vastly transcends categorization as a gangster story, drama of ill-fated love, or portrayal of the apparent soullessness of a vast and lonely land - although it is all that and more. It is beautiful, desolate, and strangely off-kilter and somewhat fragile. I highly recommend it.
