I realize what they were trying to do with female empowerment and making this movie into a serious film but it completely took away the magic of Mulan. The entire movie was serious, it was often hard to read the character of Mulan because she was so serious. It also had really cheesy run up the wall fight scenes, it made me laugh every time it happened. Mulan also had one mood the entire time. It was missing a lot and you could feel that the entire time while watching. Couldn’t really even tell it was a Disney live action. I understand Mulan is not your typical Disney Princess but the Disney magic just wasn’t there. My five year old fell asleep after a half hour into the movie. I’m only giving it 2 stars because I didn’t fall asleep.
