At our local indie cinema I had not yet had to fear a meritless film.
However, Bonjour Tristesse had me so painfully bored and at the same time so appalled by the trite dialogue that I left the film early, and felt relief instantly.
The characters were vacuous, self-involved and largely cardboard types.. I've since read that the novel on which the film was based was written by a teenager and became a "hot seller".
