A deeply moving film, and inspired casting of two boys (non-actors) who perfectly fitted the very specific theme of the film, depicting brief interval that is pre-adolescent love. Great cinematography, and acting in the numerous close-ups of their mutual emotion filled gazes at each other; their innocence and sense of fun together.
The second half of the film explored Leo's lengthy coming to terms with his loss, and the fun range of emotions that even adults struggle with. The lack of explanation felt by Remi's family members, Leo himself, and it seems some viewers/reviewers, is I think entirely realistic, particularly in young males.
Good to see a film maker explore young male friendships, just as Stand by Me did so well, but with much greater tenderness and emotion. Well worth watching the interview with the director of this excellent film.
