From the beginning of the movie, everything felt completely rushed. This movie pretty much wants you to feel sympathy about the protagonist from the get go with the whole knight thing and how 'oh no he's gonna be hated!' which I couldn't feel anything for cause it was literally the first 5 minutes of the movie. Mind you, the only thing we knew about him was that he's lovers with the prince.
I don't think there's anything to feel sorry for in that? You literally have the queen and prince on your side (which we're assuming are the people with most power ALSO surely plenty of random people must like him and he can't NOT be aware of smth like that) it felt so unnecessary..
Nimona too. She was another character you just had to feel sorry for no matter what because the movie had to sprinkle bits of her acting all sad at random moments.
Also, we get it. LGBTQ exists. Do we need to scream it every time we get the chance? No. I'm in the community and this is just annoying at this point. I don't care about some fiction world but here we still deal with issues and questions that have to do with gender norms and homosexuality. If people complain about the fact that there's too much of it in a kids movie, they're right! Cause kids are not meant to be included in "woke" conversations and that's not evil or anything. Even adults IN the community itself question things cause we aren't completely official.
We're still building the community, we still need to do groundwork around what's right and what's wrong, about how we should act towards people that don't understand a few things and about the fact that being a part of the community doesn't mean that it was created for us to act like we're special or to pretend we're worth more than others. This community was created for all of us to be equal and yet we're tearing each other apart. And for what? For this?
The only good thing about this movie is the animation, the visuals and the voice acting. The story literally wasn't anything amazing. Let's not just praise it just cause of "inclusion". Nimona talked about Ballister being brainwashed but I think it's us who are brainwashed into thinking all this is amazing stuff and that the inclusion is for the sake of goodness when there's clearly an agenda.
