TL:DR Another allegedly sexy Netflix series that has lame sex scenes that are all the same. A wife who is 85% happy misses the crazy sex life of her 20's before she married and had two kids.
What she really misses is the ex who treated her horribly but they had great sex. She starts a journal about her missing sex life and the amazing husband finds it and starts to up his game.
Things go well for a bit but then she starts to blow up her marriage to be with the ex. Then she spends the last 3 episodes trying to win the amazing husband back, only to decide she's going to start sleeping with the ex again but stay with the husband.
Also the wife does all these horribly destructive things to her family, herself and even the ex and wonders why she feels something is missing. Did I mention she is working on her PhD in psychology but had the personal insight of an earthworm? She also never tells her husband about having this wild sexual appetite or her dissatisfaction with their current sex life because honesty isn't important in a marriage. Despite that the husband is still amazing and once he sees what she is missing they start to have good sex again. But she wants the bad boy ex.
All the other characters besides the main 4 are horrible clichés of people that are used to force the story along. The Stepford wives that are the friends of the wife, Billie. They are so cliche its painful.
The wife neglects to tell the husband about her sudden decision to cheat but he knows and is devastated. Season 2 will be called divorce court.
People will say "but this is real, marriage is messy" which is true and thats why more than half of all people get divorced and put each other through hell. The wife actually truly loves her husband yet her actions make no sense if she is just going to have sex with this ex she also loves. She says she just wants sex from him but she clearly loves him.
None of the characters are sympathetic or relatable. Not really.
All the major characters are morally bankrupt except for Cooper who does the right thing, even trying to leave his wife if the ex will take care of her just so she can be happy. He deserves better.
The sex scenes are uninspired, they are basically the same scene on repeat.
After spending the first half of the series ruining her marriage and the second half trying to fix it and swearing to her husband the ex is gone, she leaves the husband with the kids after a school play and goes to have sex with the toxic ex. The End.
Again, there isn't anything new or entertaining here, there isn't anyone to root for and as has been noted the show sends horrible messages.
Sex is what matters, forget your perfect, loving husband and your two kids, just go have sex.
Maybe the hubby can be bullied into a nonconsensual polyamorous situation.
It's either that or season 2 is all about divorce and co-parenting. Yawn...
It's never about hooking up, its all about her still being in love with her ex. Her husband pointedly calls her out on this.
The sex scenes are lame, the dialogue is out of a telenovella and the show that claims to "liberate" female sexuality is about 30 years too late.
