STARTS STRONG, ENDS WEAK (almost like they cut parts out, went different directions mid composition, etc)- it really felt like they defined "RISE of red" as a Part 1 without letting the audience in on it.
Character continuity (from fairy tales) was frustrating- that's not how so many of them met (and that could have been easily explained with 5 seconds of context here or there).
The significant supporting characters were given no development or screen time (Maddox/Bridget/etc- where was the white rabbit??)...AND HOW IS FAIRY GODMOTHER THE SAME AGE AS CINDERELLA?
The queens song about love aint it was cool but less enjoyable as a walk through Broadway musical style to advance plot (and the choreography seemed like a slapdash of stellar parts from earlier movie song numbers)
Please don't try to sell me a movie as a trap to watch the next one. I already would have- but the implied cliffhanger was extremely unsatisfying. It did not have the components of all the other movie endings musical numbers. There's also the potential Red hit the timer after Maddox but before the whole movie...I guess we'll see...
The costume design was (almost) entirely up to par- colors/personality coded.
...and I was a little too hopeful a new cover of "in my own little corner" would show up...and quite disappointed "what's my name" remix didn't play out the entire song.
Basically, I looked forward to this for months, trailers were better than the movie, and I wish I could tell whoever decided they should prob make this a two parter that that's a terrible idea...every time travel movie has at least 2 hops, 1 mistake, and time lord pop in.
You can't convince me this isn't literally HALF of the intended movie...she never "lost her mom entirely" because of time travel...and they never show the condemned school alluded to in the music video... just saying 🤔
They wasted the budget on CGI...
