Lacks of representation of the real situation of that era and by giving actual "magic" powers to the female characters accused of being witches is throwing shadow to the real causes of the severe genocide that witch hunt in Europe was.
The drama is based in the transition from feudalism to capitalism. A time in which in some areas of Europe, especially cities female employment was actually as high as that of men, and while usually the poorest members of society, in time women gained access to many occupations that later would be considered male jobs. In medieval towns, women worked as smiths, wool-carders, bakers, candlestick makers, hat-makers...
In the 14th century, women were also becoming schoolteachers as well as doctors and surgeons, and were beginning to compete with university-trained men, gaining at times high reputation.
As women gained more autonomy, their presence in social life began to be recorded more frequently: In the sermons of the priests who scolded their indiscipline. In the records of the tribunals they went to denounce those who abused them...
The big mistake in my opinion is that the show portrais prosecution of real witches with paranormal powers, when in reality most of the women accused of that were just women fighting for the right to work and be educated.
