Carnival Row explores the themes we are all familiar with these days and times even though it's set in the Victorian era..The issues of acceptance, racial equality and social status still plagues us today and in a way acts a hindrance to our overall growth, despite being more sophisticated and technologically advanced..CR takes us through a journey this first season exploring these familiar themes in the best way it does with a brilliant story and cast.
It's good seeing Orlando Bloom once more doing what he does best(acting) and after about 8 episodes I can't really see anyone who would have done justice as Orlando did to his character..His character was very real, relatable and had a demeanor that best reflected the plot of season one...Cara Delevingne as an actress did an amazing job and I am intrigued with how she portrayed her character..I personally wrote her off after Suicide Squad but it's good to see she's not a one dimensional actress so big ups to her..However,I felt her relationship with Orlando in the film was more of a confidant than an actual love interest..I didn't see so much that would have suggested she and Orlando were a thing in the past and that's where I felt the show should and could have done more in that regard...unless I missed something but she never kissed Orlando throughout season one but managed to kiss her best friend who is in fact a woman. My two favorite characters in this show has to be Jonah and Sophie, loved their intense chemistry very natural and organic..I hope season 2 explores their intertwined siblings/lovers relationship to a greater extent and how both can maximize it to their respective political advantages.
Overall,I give this series a 4/5 and hope for greater things in season 2..it's definitely a must watch and the only downside to this series is them not exploring the aforementioned chemistry Orlando and Cara had in the past..
