Literally exactly half way into the book I figured out that the "victim" in this book was actually the "culprit." Vice versa. It was decent. Writing style is not for the mature reader. Not worth the original price. If you want to read it I highly recommend using a library, friend's copy, or searching for a cheap 3-8 Dollar copy. Don't even bother expecting great things from the next two books. For your own time and sanity read this book as if it was a standalone because it only goes downhill from here. Well unless you like a book with bad writing, an annoying main character who makes bad decisions after bad decisions, and a slightly predictable plot. (The next books EXTREMELY predictable) If so, then you should devour this book.

DNF -Did Not Finish I was able to predict who the real "culprit" was at chapter 35. Which is a little under half way into the book. The writing style in this book is good enough for a middle schooler, but for a mature thriller reader absolutely not. If you like books that are pretty much predictable. With an annoying main character who constantly makes bad decisions left and right. Then this is the book for you. Honestly if you've read her first book "The Housemaid" then no doubt you will see the same plot. The "victim" is always the "culprit" and vice versa. There's are some books that are "so perfectly bad that you keep reading" then there's "so bad that you refuse to continue wasting your time." This book is the second. Do not waste your money!!! If you really want to give it a chance then borrow it from a library/ friend, or buy it somewhere for cheap. Meaning 3-5 dollars.

If there is one word to sum up this book it would be the word "RAW." As you read so many emotions will take over you. Sadness, happiness, both at the same time, relatability.... There is not one character that you will love or hate more than the other. The author successfully made each of her characters perfectly imperfect humans. You understand each one of them and you accept them as they come. something we should all do everyday with others. Immediately you are immersed into the world of Daisy and The Six. There's no time for thinking only reading. You must keep reading because it's starts of so fast. From the first to the last page, which is sure to put a smile on your face and maybe choke you up a bit, I was hooked. I enjoyed every bit of this book. Get it, read it, you won't regret it.

It started off so strong. It is overall an enjoyable, simple, yet engaging read. I would have given it five stars until the author revealed who the killer was. I don't want to give spoilers in case you choose to read it. So, I'm just going to say that the supernatural type vibe is not it. It was shocking that's for sure, but at the same time it was also a "what the heck is going on" moment. I found the supernatural premise to be annoying, and the relationship the main character has with the killer unexpected. There is no hints or clues anywhere, causing another "what the heck is going on" moment instead of a "woah, wow, this is so good!" moment for the reader. Would I recommend this book to anyone, definitely not. However, did I enjoy the read, yes! I enjoyed the author's writing style a lot and I don't regret reading it.

Wow. Just wow. From the first page this book held my attention to the very last. So good. So heart touching that I even read the acknowledgements at the very end. This is a great book to add to your home library. If you love learning about the history of African Americans this is a must read. Brilliantly written as fiction yet with mentions of true people who lived, died and had part in making this world a little more safer for "negroes" "creatures, as the white southerners in this book love to say." When I picked this book up, I didn't have any expectations, yet I was pleasantly surprised. The one thing that I would say wasn't my cup of tea was the "spiritual" black magic type moments. But nevertheless I still think this book is worth the read.

After reading Lapena's novel "Everyone Here Is Lying," which I rated decently, I just could not finish this novel by her. Nine chapters in and it feels like I'm back in middle school. If you are a mature reader, I don't think you would enjoy this book. In middle school I probably would have thought this book was amazing, four stars. I can tell that this is about to be a long drawn our book with me skipping many pages and even chapters just to get to the juicy twists. It's not one of those books that even though some chapters may not have any wow moments it keeps your attention. The chapters feel like fluff chapters. Like an episode of a television series put in simply to expand the running time of the show, with a hint of something "shocking" thrown in at the end to get you to stay for the next episode. I say if you are in middle school and maybe even high school give it a try. If you are new to the thriller genre, maybe give it a try. But if you are an avid thriller reader this just may be a complete waste of time. I am now wondering what her target age group was.

Wild, crazy, unexpected ending! The novel started of slightly slow and kept an even pace throughout. However not slow to the point where you want to stop reading altogether. I definitely think the ending is worth the read. Things start really amping up and getting juicy at chapter 32 out of the 56 chapter. This book isn't one of those books that has you thinking about it days after you read it. Yet it is one of those books that you don't regret reading. Simple yet entertaining. The ending leaves the reader feeling satisfied, wanting more, but satisfied.

You know those books where you continue reading even though you know you have that exam to study for, or that errand to run. The books that you would only put down if you HAD to. Well this is one of those books. This book kept my interest throughout. I skipped very few pages. (Not out of boredom but because I was so excited to see what would happen next) There was some good shocking twist. It was hard to put down but I had to... You know, because of life... If you read this on a day where you know you have nothing to do, I don't think you would put it down at all until you're done. I can see myself reading this in another five to ten years or so. It's definitely worth buying.

I actually want to give it 3.5 stars. The book is okay. The first few chapters actually had me hooked and excited to finish reading. However the ending was not satisfying. The word that came to my mind after reading was 'pointless.' The feeling I got after reading was 'pointlessness.' It had like one true wow moment. If you're bored and you need something stress-free to read then give this a read. Maybe burrow it from a library first though. Since I honestly don't think this is worth paying for and keeping on your shelf. Again it was an okay book, but these two authors have better books out there. So even if you don't like this one you may like a different one. I did. It was actually because I enjoyed their book, "The Wife Between Us" that I even picked this book up.
