This film was ground breaking in so many ways. It addresses the issues of gender roles and the impact of stereotyping on our children, reducing their potential to be successful, and destroying their future unless the family changes their position and supports whatever life path the child chooses to pursue.
You are introduced to a father who dearly loves his children, without ANY one having ever shown him how to express these feelings. Yet HE breaks through! He finds the way to rise above the brutish world that has been his and his peer's for generations, and he gives his love and support to his sons. The issues of Gay/Straight are also addressed in a very novel way - leading assumptions which turn it all on it's head.
