I love the music of this movie, the musicians as people don't come off so well. It is a great movie, for it's music and for seeing many of the performers of that era in their prime.
The interviews interspersed with the music are representative of the misogyny of the time and you can see it, I think, in the groups interactions with Joni Mitchell and Emmy Lou Harris. It's like they don't really know how to interact with women as artistic equals.
The casual discussion in interviews of how much p--- they get on the road is unfortunately echoed in the comments of the current POTUS.
I will watch this movie again and again for the musical performances, but it's tough hearing the interviews when they stray from music. As most commentators point out Levon Helm while he hated the movie comes off very well in his performance and has the best quote in the movie about the birth of rock and roll.
