Review of Psycho… the 1999 remake
The cast does a great job, particularly Vince Vaughn and William H. Macy, but really everyone. This remake is pretty faithful to the original 1959(?) masterpiece, up to and including the wonderful original music by Bernard Herrman.
My only question is... why? Why remake a classic? Just to do it in color? The black & white created a delightfully creepy atmosphere that the color version just does not, even with the overly pastel-color blood circling the drain in the infamous shower scene!
Just my opinion, but to me, the most shudder-inducing thing about this film is what next? What else will they decide to do a "modern" version of? Perhaps Casablanca, or Gone With the Wind, or hey, how about Citizen Kane?
Pardon me while I…
