Don't waste your time watching this. They gave the faux antagonist ridiculous motives and backstory. They represented Wesker in the most lackluster way possible. They just gave the cool one a flattop and called it a day. The actor is bald, so it looks goofy. I'm black and love Resident evil so to see them ruin his character like this brings me great sorrow. The story went nowhere. The transition back and forth between past and present is supposed to be unique but It just turns out to be a frustrating balancing act between a horrendously mediocre prologue and a plain messy plotline that randomly introduces elements that seem to invalidate whatever the prologue (past) attempts to make the viewer believe about what is important in the show. If you are a fan you will hate this. The scene that serves as the catalyst for the outbreak feels so incredibly poorly written that It will haunt you for the rest of the show. Seemed the authors spent more time ticking boxes than trying to do this fantastic franchise justice.
SPOILERS:
The outbreak was caused by an animal rights activist in the dumbest way possible. Able to break into the deepest parts of the lab without a retina scan, just a keycard and voice recording? On camera...considering what Umbrella's capabilities were in the past (which the show acknowledges through Wesker's VHS tapes and Racoon city) is insulting to the franchise. The company secures itself with a stormtrooper amount of clones for security and yet once the clock strikes 9 suddenly it's easy as hell to sneak around the facility. The fake protagonist's main motivation appears to be keeping her wife sedated and family together- doesn't hesitate to kill her son. The same fake protagonists introduce a character floating in a tube for 9 seconds and that's all we hear about that until the last second where we can assume he escaped? The two main characters apparently never questioned their father's background or lack of family members this entire time. The main character insists on doing research in the most dangerous areas completely alone, which is the only reason she has to go through so much in order to get back to the library- despite her knowingly being wanted by Umbrella. The sister's betrayal is disgustingly unnecessary, and her manipulation of the faux antagonist destroyed whatever droplet of seriousness was left in this show. Scientist Wesker the genius can't put it together that his daughter is infected by the T-Virus despite taking samples of her blood all the time? There's so much more but I just could not enjoy this.
