An intriguing story that does well to circumvent expectations. Weir’s writing style is holds attention and brings humour. Non-Americans take note: that classic American view of the world is strong in Weir’s writing. The basis of many jokes is the sexual awkwardness and Russian characters are consistently crazy bordering insane. However unlike most authors Weir consistently tries to make events realistic and explainable through a scientific basis, considerably increasing the immersion of this story. Overall a worthwhile experience that I thoroughly enjoyed, and one I expect to see transformed into the cinema like “The Martian”.
