Back in the 1980’s, I used to think these extreme and harsh views of the ‘other’ were just the beliefs of a few weird friends. I passed it off as unique aberrations until my sons signed up for a Christian debate league in the early 2000’s. Here were a whole roomful of Christians with the same, harsh and very political views about ‘others’. I began receiving emails from ‘Christian’ organizations. I was encouraged to send my kids to anti-science camp. ‘Facts’ were given to my children that we could easily see were made up lore with some agenda other than debate in mind. I was told how to vote and which congress people to contact about which issues. My kids did research with me into the organizers of this debate group, the founders, funders and organizers. Ralph Reed and his cronies machinations were creating a generation in lock-step with their political ambitions which, by the way, had very little to do with Christianity. What Tim Alberta is writing about is very real and much bigger than even he suspects. Read it and weep. More importantly, read it and stay awake.
