Disappointing entry from Makoto Shinkai. A confusing, repetitive and unengaging story overwhelms some elegant animation and soundtrack. Main problem is that it's trying too hard to be profound, while not really having much to say. Too frightening for children but too facile for adults.

A stunningly beautiful anime parable that asks tough questions about contemporary inequality. It also deconstruct the "powers would be wonderful" trope with exceptional seriousness. A story of compassion, it requires a lot of attention from the viewer, but the payoff is exceptional. A genuine anime for adults. Profound and moving.

Basically a remake of Wolf's Rain except with lesbian vampires instead of gay werewolves. Beautiful Siberian scenery, underwhelming plot line.
