Once every few years there is a true cinematic atrocity, a butchering of source material so blatant true fans will not even talk about it. The Eragon movie was one, the live action Avatar the last airbender was another, but this may be the worst. They essentially scrapped the book(s) entirely and rewrote them into some nonsensical amalgamation. Characters are swapped, moved added and removed for absolutely no reason, and the ones left are changed beyond recognition. Artemis is not the morally questionable boy genius from the books, just a random uninspiring 12 year old with no special characteristics except a lot of money. Holly is a perky teenager with none of the lovable hardness from the book, Butler is not even butler, he barely does anything and he randomly has a niece whose character serves absolutely no purpose to the movie, and many other horribly mangled characters I once loved. The worst thing though is since this butchering by people who clearly didn’t read or understand the books flopped they won’t make any more movies and will most likely just sit on the rights without doing anything with them. Not just a flop or a bad movie, but a criminal mishandling of one of my all time favorite books. Disney should be ashamed.
