Awful show.
So overproduced in order to demonstrate the worst in people and extremely anti-feminist in execution.
An impossible chance encounter by two hunters in the middle of the wilderness leads to a very dodgy allegiance.
The producers constantly adjust the rules to create more drama.
I’m the end, boys are pitted against girls, good vs evil.
If only it was so black and white.
The final boys team is presented as taking ‘moral high ground’, so the viewer can be satisfied good has prevailed. however:
1) they ruthlessly poach another member and take some additional supplies from another depleted team,
2) they argue aggressively and patronisingly with the only woman in their own group because they refuse her opinions,
3) they stand idly by whilst their neighbouring team is robbed of their sleeping bags and are happy enough to leave them to freeze,
4) they make a pact with Alpha team who they already know to be stealing, ransacking intimidating and bullying other teams,
5) that pact leads to Alpha team doing their dirty work whilst they keep their hands ‘clean’,
6) they poach one of the Alpha team members, who promptly sabotages his old Alpha team by ripping their shelter down (obviously) and they kick him out of their own team because they consider him to already be a member of their team and so at that point he was ‘representing’ them… yet they do nothing to accept responsibility for their team member’s actions, apologise, repair or make up for the fact that their team have now also been sabotaging others. - This time their team are directly responsible for leaving two survivors without proper shelter in the freezing wilderness.
If that’s the moral high ground that this show purports, it’s pathetic. This is not how people behave and survive in adversity.
What a bunch of passive wussies. Sadly the women’s behaviour manages to be worse and they continue to be presented as the worst characters of the show…
By the end, no one left deserves to win.
There’s also a really ugly moment where one innocent man is accosted, robbed and has his property damaged by two women. How that was allowed to play out by the producers is beyond me… I do wonder what would have happened had he raised arms and executed his right to defend his property.
It’s television reality that decides it’s own morals and rules throughout.
Two people need medical attention and need to be airlifted out, yet the show reckons they could come back after a check up. Madness…firstly, putting those people at massive health risk but also the idea of them returning completely defeats the purpose of a survival show.
The producers seemed hellbent on orchestrating a very violent showdown between two teams just to say ‘see, this is what people are like!’ … a la Stanford prison experiment, where the violence as we know, was set up and staged by the discredited psychologist and was not representative of natural human behaviour.
The camera shots and general filming, do leave you wondering how much of this was scripted.
This is not normal human behaviour in any scenario, survival or otherwise. Don’t believe me, read up on the real life ‘lord of the flies’ on Mano Totau.
Better yet, look at the world around you, 8billion people have built up a world that functions to manage resource scarcity and share it with one another, strong, weak, able, disabled. All humanity once came from a world this hostile, and today is where we are, we didn’t just kill each other off.
Yes, there is hate, but there is far more love.
Total garbage, avoid.
