I went to the movie being aware of all the horrible reviews and when I checked before I went 6% on rotten tomatoes. All I could be in the face of these devastating reviews is being surprised pleasantly.
When we focus on the storyline and plot we will not be mind blown... It is a pretty basic concept with a little bit of Odyssey in it, which has proven to work for a lot of stories. So it worked for me. After reading all those reviews I didn't expect genius in the story.
However, I thought that the landscapes of Borderlands were captured and translated beautifully into film.
I also thought the acting was great and thought it to be a stylistic device not to be a serious kind of acting, but more adequate and more consistent with the Borderlands franchise.
Kevin Hart surprised me positively as well, as he actually did not make his role look ridiculous.
Absolutely Excellent for me was the choice and composition of music which for me impacts a movie greatly and that aspect was a home run.
I gave it a chance.
