This book represents a fascinating peek into Fleming’s take on the experience of a young woman ‘coming of age’ at the cusp of 1960’s liberalism. Although at the time he saw it as ‘a failed experiment’, sixty years later it opens a door to a man’s interpretation of female sexuality at a time when this was not discussed outside Freudian psychiatric theory.
I believe it provides a unique insight into a very important moment for gender awareness and the struggle for female equality.
