Slow, boring, obtuse, and infuriating. Just a really bad movie. After increasingly losing my patience for the first 30 minutes i thought, “okay, it’s gonna pick up after this forsure” but nope. it was insufferably slow and left me exhausted from the never-ending anticipation and unsatisfactory wrap up. I did enjoy the small moments of kafkaesque cinematography but it didn’t make up for the absolute boredom i felt for most of the movie. It had so many opportunities to be good & i love an outrageous turn of events but this one was just plain stupid. Too many plot holes and no sense of direction. Considering how perfect Midsommar and Hereditary were, i had SUCH high hopes for even a hint of greatness but this was a HUGE disappointment. This would have been much better as a 1.5 hr movie but the fact that it took 3 hours to explain nothing ruined the whole thing. I feel like this was a great concept on paper but it just didn’t translate well into a film. I still <3 Joaquin Phoenix though, it’s not his fault for Ari Aster’s failure of a movie.
