It was wonderful! Halle was full of life and perfectly portrayed the curious, stubborn and innocent teenage mermaid with an amazing voice from the original! Prince Eric has much more depth of character then in the cartoon and it helps immensely with the sweet and realistic connection between him and Areal. I was expecting some sort of political under current or "wokeness" But I have no idea what people are talking about on that regard. Other then the color of her skin Halle is exactly Areal. The tropical island setting made much more sense with the very Jamaican songs from the original and was a beautiful backdrop for this classic young love romance. My only qualm was that Triton and his daughters felt very stiff and awkward. A lot of reviews mention the animal characters being creepy but look again at the original cartoon Sebastian and imagine that with realistic skin and carapace 0.0 believe me this is MUCH better.
