I've seen a lot of hype for Barbarian with many claiming that it's one of the scariest movies from the past few years. Needless to say that my expectations were very high. The movie has such a strong opening, I genuinely enjoyed it. From the dark quiet neighborhood to the constant rain, the atmosphere was great by putting you on edge. The chemistry between Bill Skarsgård and Georgina Campbell was amazing, I didn't want their scenes to end. The movie takes a turn early on by introducing a secondary protagonist. I love Justin Long as an actor, he was very charming in this movie, but I absolutely hated his character. He just came off as an annoying douche. I don't know if that was the point of his character but honestly I would've just preferred it if he was a likeable character like Tess was. I kept questioning if I was still watching the same movie due to how long and out of place his scenes were, I wasn't a fan. His "bro" attitude was also kind of cringey imo. But it all somewhat came full circle. I really loved the backstory on the house and found myself wanting to see more because of how atmospheric and unnerving it was, I honestly wish that they expanded on the flashbacks. In the end, I love the concept of Barbarian, it's quite unique, but I can't help but feel like the execution was lackluster. An extended version definitely would improve my rating for the film but it wasn't bad.
