It helps (a little) to be familiar w/ another book of hers, Station Eleven.
If you are tired of predictable straight forward plot lines, this should grab you. It is a mixture of characters whose lives intertwine through the deeds of a corrupt money manager, not that they all meet. There are multiple protagonists, philosophical musings on money and alternate timelines and knowing the author is also from BC, she poetically captured the mood of Northern Vancouver Island quite well. I appreciated it.
