this movie was terrible!!! as a teenage girl the same age as cady heron who reveres the original, and also adores the musical, this movie completely missed the mark. firstly, the music. they didn't incorporate some of the best songs from the musical, and the music itself was so weird. it was too pop-y and had none of the magic the original musical did. cady's singing in particular was horrible, although everyone except for renee was very average. this was a very big let down, and will break the hearts of anyone who is familiar with and likes the musical. i didn't feel excited by anything going on. they ruined the best jokes, of which there weren't many, by putting them in the trailer, and it was just ridiculously unfunny at times. they got rid of the most iconic jokes as well, and called janis a pyro-lez?? i understand not using the slur, but was there really nothing better? like someone else here said, no one really felt convincing as their characters, and they lacked the iconic energy you'd expect from this movie. i was excited to see the social media aspects, but it was so cringey. they directors obviously have no idea of the kind of content teenagers actually consume, and it seems they instead transferred their facebook reels onto a tiktok template. the pacing was also so weird. it felt way too slow at times, but it also missed so many of the little things that made the original such an incredibly good movie. ugh this makes me so angry!!! terrible movie.
