I like George Lopez’s comedy, and I absolutely loved his show in the early 2000s. But this show lacks depth. The characters are missing chemistry and there is no real evolution of their lives or their relationships. Unfortunately sometimes the overwhelming focus on the American Latino lifestyle and culture overpowers the storyline which makes the show a little unrelatable to a large part of possible viewers. Though George delivers with both impeccable timing and believability, Mayan struggles with both, so obvious that it detracts from the flow of the interaction between characters. You would think the bond between a real life father and daughter would come through, but it doesn’t. Hopefully Mayan will improve with time. And I don’t know what to think of Brice Gonzalez. He is obviously very talented, especially for his young age, but his performances are over the top and unnecessary to the show. Overall the show is fun and entertaining, which is a lot more than I can say for 99% of anything else on tv or movies today. But I’m 100% positive I wouldn’t have even watched the first episode if it wasn’t for George.
